Fast and highly available Profibus networks can be extended easily to explosion protection zone 1. The ATEX approvals for zones 1, 21, 2 and 22 have been applied for.
The new Profibus FO repeater OZD Profi G12 ATEX 1, which has a transfer rate of up to 12 Mbit/s, supports the HIPER-Ring redundancy technique. The optical power can also be monitored continuously by signal strength outputs which can be integrated in the process control system.
The HIPER-Ring technique ensures that the FO repeater automatically switches over to another ring segment without a measurable interruption, i.e. within 0 milliseconds, in the case of faults such as a fibre break, thus guaranteeing a constantly high network availability. The failure of the original connecting cable is reported immediately to the process control system via potential-free relay contacts. All connections are designed as EEX-e terminals.
The repeater has two optical and one electrical port and a redundant 24 Volt power supply. A stainless steel housing or a plastic housing with or without viewing window are available for installation in explosion protection zone 1. If the repeater is to be installed with other devices in a common housing, the optical function module is also available without a housing with its own approval.
Since the OZD Profi G12 ATEX 1 offers the same functions as the other devices in the OZD-Profi product series , this device is fully compatible with the standard components for zone 2.
